O Museu Escolar Oliveira Lopes (MEOL) tem como missão a salvaguarda, a divulgação do legado das Escolas Primárias Oliveira Lopes e dos seus beneméritos, bem como a investigação e o estudo da evolução história do sistema educativo em Portugal, criando condições museológicas adequadas às suas especificidades, com vista ao contributo para o desenvolvimento social e cultural. A abertura do Museu Escolar Oliveira Lopes em 1996 foi resultado da recolha de peças e documentos efetuada pelo antigo professor e diretor Joaquim de Almeida e Pinho, tendo como propósito a preservação e divulgação da memória e do património das Escolas Primárias Oliveira Lopes e dos seus beneméritos, através de objetos que serviram, desde 1910, para a instrução das crianças da região, onde se destacaram inúmeras peças de elevado valor patrimonial, nomeadamente, mobiliário, material didático e lúdico. As escolas primárias foram inauguradas na véspera da implantação da República, sob o patrocínio de dois emigrantes “torna-viagem” – os Irmãos Oliveira Lopes – relevando na época a imponência do edifício e a qualidade da arquitetura, quer pelo conforto, funcionalidade dos espaços, bem como, pela riqueza dos elementos decorativos da fachada principal. Em 2019, a Câmara Municipal de Ovar inaugurou as obras de reabilitação do imóvel.

OLIVEIRA LOPES SCHOOL MUSEUM
The mission of the Oliveira Lopes School Museum is the safeguard and promotion of the legacy of the Oliveira Lopes Primary Schools and their benefactors, as well as the research and study of the historical evolution of the educational system in Portugal, creating museological conditions adequate for their specificities, aiming to contribute to social and cultural development.
The opening of the Oliveira Lopes School Museum in 1996 was the result of the collection of pieces and documents made by the former teacher and director Joaquim de Almeida e Pinho, with the purpose to preserve and promote the memory and heritage of the Oliveira Lopes Primary Schools and their benefactors, through objects that were used, since 1910, in the instruction of children from the region, especially countless pieces with a high heritage value, namely furniture and didactic and recreational materials.
The primary schools were inaugurated on the eve of the establishment of the Republic, under the patronage of two emigrants who returned from Brazil: the Oliveira Lopes Brothers. At the time, the grandeur of the building and the quality of its architecture (comfort, functionality of the spaces and richness of the decorative elements of the main façade) were highlighted. In 2019, the Town Council of Ovar inaugurated the renovation of the building.
